The narrowest and shortest street

In the old part of Vodnjan, in a multitude of narrow streets, lies probably the narrowest and shortest street in Istria. A funny anecdote is told about it by the inhabitants of Vodnjan taking us back to the Austro-Hungarian period.

A policeman of the time caught a thief steeling and started chasing him in the streets of the old town. As the thief ran fast, the policeman found it difficult to reach him. In the end, he entered a small, narrow street. Slim and swift, the thief easily left the street after a few steps.

The policeman, who was "a bit less slim" turned into the street and was stuck there, never capturing the thief. Today, the narrowest street is called Stari grad - Old Town.
