Church of St. Anthony the abbot
On the road to Fažana lies the Church of St. Anthony, abbot and hermit, probably from the 13th century. Since the economy of Vodnjan in the past was based on cattle breeding, as protector of domestic animals, the church bears dedication to this saint.
The church is an aisleless edifice with an apse. Its walls still show fragments of frescoes from the 13th and 14th centuries. Oxen and cows were brought for benediction on the saint's feast day, while blessed salt was carried home for other animals.
Owing to the Vodnjan benefactor Angelo Cecon, the church was renovated in 1894 and a retirement home was built at the site.
